Troubleshooting- Optimize Your Internet

UNPLUG THE ROUTER, THEN PLUG IT BACK IN.

One of the first things you can do if you are experiencing slow speed or a fluctuating connection, is to unplug the router for 20 seconds, and then plug it back in.

WIRED vs WIRELESS?

A wired connection is just plain faster than Wireless. Try to match each device with its best connection. PCs, laptops, media players and gaming consoles work best with a wired connection. Mobile devices and tablet work best on a wireless connection.

WHY IS MY INTERNET SLOW?

Where you place your router matters! Physical barriers; like walls or appliances, and the number of devices connected, can slow down your wireless speed. The further the signal must travel, the slower the speed will be.

If steps to optimize your speeds fail, please consider upgrading to a higher package.

STEPS TO OPTIMIZE YOUR INTERNET:

1. Unplug The Router: Before you call a technician; try unplugging both the router and power supply for antenna, and wait 30 seconds before plugging back in. This is one of the first things you can do if you are experience slow speed or a fluctuating connection.

2. Get Closer to your Wireless Router: Location is important! Whether it's upstairs or in the attic (which is not ideal), these kinds of areas make it difficult for the wireless signal to reach your devices. By placing the router in the center of your home, off the floor, in the room that the internet is most frequently accessed.

3. Check the Number of Devices: Multiple devices can reduce your bandwidth. Each device takes a portion of your wireless signal, the more devices you have, the more your wireless signal strength is divided up. Check if unused devices are connected to your wireless signal, as this could decrease your speed.

Note: Some devices can’t support higher speeds, which slows other devices down. Check your owner’s manual to see what speeds your devices can support.

4. PASSWORD PROTECT YOUR WIRELESS SIGNAL! All devices share your internet speed and wireless signal, even outside of your home. Be sure to secure your router, and password protect your wireless signal.

5. Virus Protection:  Keep your devices protected! Viruses are the most well-known computer attackers. There are many types of viruses; each can compromise PCs in a different way. Run regular virus scans; optimize your browsers cookies and clear cache.
